What You Need to Know About Remote Eye Exams

Do I have to make an appointment for a comprehensive eye examination?

No. Walk-ins are always welcome. If you want to make an appointment, you can click on the link above to schedule an exam with either the on-site doctor or the remote doctor.

Will the remote eye exam be more expensive than an eye exam performed by an on-site Doctor of Optometry?

No. The price is the same for both types of eye exams and may be covered by vision insurance plans.

Will insurance companies provide coverage for remote eye exams performed at a For Eyes location?

Yes. Some insurance companies will cover remote eye exams. You can speak with one of our associates in the store to help you maximize your benefits.

How long would I have to wait to get an optical prescription if needed?

Your prescription will be issued in minutes, the same as other eye exams. That means you can purchase contact lenses or glasses almost immediately after getting your eyes checked.

Can I get an eye exam for a contact lenses prescription?

Yes. The remote eye exam is appropriate for customers seeking both eyeglasses and contact lenses.

How long does the eye exam take?

From start to finish, the remote eye exam generally takes less than 30 minutes, making it a convenient option if you have a busy schedule.

What should I take to my eye doctor appointment?

Please bring your current prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, as well as a description of any medications you are currently on, allergies, and questions for your eye doctor. You will also need your eye insurance information.

What happens at an eye exam?

The optometrist will ask questions about your lifestyle, computer use, and whether you have any vision concerns. The actual eye tests depend on the patient’s age. In general, you will be asked to read lines on an eye chart that is 20 feet away from your face to test your visual sharpness. The eye doctor may also do other eye tests to see if you have any symptoms of health issues, such as diabetes or glaucoma.

How often do I need an eye exam?

It is recommended to book an eye exam by the time your child turns 6 months old, then again at age 3, and every year starting at age 6. Remember: the eye doctor is always in at For Eyes!

Does a vision screening at school count for an eye exam?

While vision screenings can reveal a lot about your child’s eyes, regular comprehensive eye examinations are still important. These appointments help your child’s eye doctor monitor their vision changes and detect early signs of eye diseases.

Why do eye doctors look into eyes with a bright light?

One thing most people don’t know is that the eyes are the window to the body. In other words, symptoms of conditions such as diabetes can present themselves in the eyes, even though they affect other parts of the body. Eye doctors use lights to see how your eyes react and also to check for any redness or discoloration. Looking into the eyes with a light can also help your eye doctor detect conditions, including cataracts.

Where can I find an eye doctor near me?

To find an eye doctor in your area, all you have to do is go here. Input your zip code, city, or state to find a For Eyes location nearby. Then, you can schedule an eye doctor appointment at a time that works for you.

What is the eye doctor appointment cost?

The total cost will vary based on your needs and whether you have vision insurance. To get pricing for your eye exam, contact your nearest For Eyes.
